Juz 17: اقْتَرَبَ

Call upon Your Lord!

The example of Prophet Yūnus (AS), where he made a mistake, and the predicament that he found himself in, was a result of his own mistake.

Sometimes this happens, when we are going through a certain hardship and we reflect on ourselves, we realize, ‘Perhaps this is a result of my own injustice, perhaps I am the reason why I am suffering from this, I have no one else to blame except myself.’

However, even in that condition, we are still worthy. Even if we have every reason to blame ourselves, to condemn ourselves, we are still worthy, we are still able to call upon Allah ﷻ.

Allah ﷻ saved Prophet Yūnus from distress. There is a lesson in this for all believers!

ḤADITH: ‘The supplication of Dhun Nūn (Prophet Yunus) when he supplicated while in the belly of the whale was:

 لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَـٰنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever except that Allah ﷻ responds to him.’ [Jami At-Tirmidhi]

Question: How long did Prophet Yūnus (AS) remain in the belly of the fish?
